The diversity of wood species: properties and applications
All types of wood have specific properties in terms of hardness, resistance and colour. Throughout history, these properties have determined the wide range of uses of this exceptional and highly valued material. Experience has shown that each type of wood responds differently to certain requirements. For this reason, when working with wood, careful consideration must be given to the different uses.
When people first settled there, wood was initially used for building houses, for walls and roofs, and because of its easy workability, it was also used to make furniture, vessels, tools, instruments and ships.
Since wood is a very complex material and its properties, composition and structure are very diverse, the purpose that the wood has to fulfill has a wide variety of processing requirements.
Between the processing of a simple squared timber and the masterful production of fine furniture, there are a whole range of different possibilities for woodworking and wood processing.
The most important aspect of precise woodworking, however, is the right choice of tools. Different phases of the practical processing require a variety of different tools that are best suited to each of the work steps to be completed.
