The chisel set for the highest demands
Chisels are the most versatile and widely used of all mortising tools and are a must-have for every woodworker. They are suitable for both precise freehand cuts and light taps with a mallet. The beveled edges reduce the risk of jamming in the wood and allow access to difficult areas such as dovetail joints.
Robert Sorby offers two versions of chamfer chisels. Set No. 166 consists of a classic design with a ferrule and leather backing. Both versions are popular and offer different grips.
The chisels are made from the same high-quality material and are crafted with the utmost precision. Each chisel features a 25° primary bevel and a 30° secondary bevel to easily work even harder woods.
For softwoods like pine, we recommend sanding to 20° for the primary bevel and 25° for the secondary bevel. Very hard woods like oak require steeper angles (30° for the primary bevel and 35° for the secondary bevel).
